| Richard was my student (high school 1966-67) and was one of the very finest. Along with his love of learning was a love of Judaism and Israel. The United States was in turmoil over the Vietnam War and civil rights. In class, Richard was highly respected for his sense of justice which could not be rationalized away. In the early 80`s when it became obvious that Israel was beginning the settlements in Palestine, I wondered if his love of Israel would cloud his sense of justice. Upon his return from studies at Hebrew University, we had a long visit. His love of justice and Israel came together into a grave concern for the future of Israel, as well as the future of Palestinians. I knew those many years ago that this extraordinary person would help to lead the way toward a just peace in this angry conflict. Thank you Richard for your brilliant blog - Tikun Olam.
