These Russian Jews who came to Germany are not traitors since they are mostly `nominal Jews` who don`t have much of a Jewish religious-cultural identity. And yes, you are right, they came to enjoy the public housing and other social benefits granted to them. And yes, there is something artificial to it. But it`s the same thing as with the immigrants from Russia to Israel. They are `nominal Jews` who would have rather gone to Canada but didn`t get visa.
BTW, did you know, that Sharon complained with the German government that too many Russian Jews were coming to Germany instead of going to Israel. After his complaint, Germany changed its liberal immigration criteria. |
