What people will admit is true and how they decide what to admit is true is interesting.
Take Black crime in the US. It can be fairly easily demonstrated that Blacks are far more likely to commit crime than members of other groups -- but a good half of those reading these words are already gearing up to deny the fact if possible, or at least to deny it any significance.
Why? Because granting it threatens to lead to a series of conclusions justifying racist policies.
Similarly with the Arabs and the Holocaust. Israel has largely hijacked the Holocaust to justify its own existence. Leaving aside the logical validity of that, it`s fairly obvious that for an Arab, to grant the reality of the Holocaust is to move towards accepting the justification for Israel.
They don`t want to do that, so as with most Americans when it comes to Blacks, they veer towards denial instead. To call the Holocaust a myth serves as a rhetorical device signalling uncompromising hostility towards Israel. |
