Without that "misleading headline" very few people would have bothered to read the article. While it does present a focus that was not necessarily there, it is a key part of the article and does comprise about half of the text. Also - Haaretz, like most other websites, makes its money from people clicking through its articles (thus more views of the adverts etc.) A boring headline about the decline of music research would barely produce revenue, and again, would not spread the information far past those interested in music research at universities. And no, I do not work for Haaretz. (I am slightly in the field and thought to share this explanation with you) There is not too much wrong with a slightly sensational headline as long as it is factually correct, if somewhat focused on a specific part of the piece. |
