| When I studied at the Hebrew University twenty years ago, they had a Department of Semitic Languages with a world-renowned expert on ancient semitic epigraphy (Naveh), a world-renowned expert on semitic philology, particularly ancient Aramaic and Ugaritic (Greenfield), and world-renowned expert on semitic linguistics and mediaeval Hebrew (Goshen). Naveh turns 80 next week and the others have passed away and their positions closed. |
