I don`t agree with Olmert. In my perception the period 2000 - 2006 was more quiet than the current period. Olmert seems to forget recent incidents along the northern border, such as katysushas fired in two separate incidents since the last war, and infiltrants trying to sneak across the border at Ghajar.
In addition, one of the results of the last war is that Lebanon is now again at the brink of civil war. This may result in the country falling apart, i.e. that there will be no effective central government any more, and that Palestinian terrorist groups and Hezbollah will once again have south Lebanon as their playground. Already now one can see that the central government is very weak and various state institutions are virtually powerless.
I`m not saying that the Lebanon war is completely responsible for the current crisis but it has definitely played a role in bringing tensions in Lebanese society to the surface.
