The Associated Press is reporting that authorities in the northern state of Kelantan - governed by the opposition Pan-Maylasian Islamic Party - will fine supermarkets and shops if they let men and women use the same lines at checkout counters. This, I fear, is the direction Israel`s ultra-Orthodox are taking the country. Gender segregation on buses, in public performances, in lecture halls. Maimonides updated burial site in Tiberias is now gender segregated (it was not in 1984). What`s next? This is *not* Jewish tradition.
