Yusef Shaheen Haj Yihyeh repeated the main points in Hebrew after he made his Arabic speech.

That should have been the end of it.

Rabin was in the wrong and aplogized to the man who spoke in his native tongue that is also one of the official languages of Israel.

Should Israeli Jews learn Arabic? Absolutely. Many, in fact, learn it from their grandparents, refugees from Arab countries following the War of Independance riots. Jews need to communicate with their Arab co-citizens and other peoples in the region.

Should Palestinian Israelis learn and speak Hebrew? Of course. Hebrew is the ticket to economic and social advancement in Israel. To refuse to speak Hebrew is to accept a life of second class citizenship, poverty, and marginalization.

Should Israel abandon Hebrew? Of course not. It is the Jewish State and Hebrew is the Jewish language.
