The status of Israel`s other official language needs to be reassessed and soon. Israel is first and foremost a Hebrew speaking nation. It is the language that unifies both Arab and Jew.
Speaking uniquely in Arabic to a public crowd where even a minority of attendees only understand Hebrew is ultimately insulting. It was meant to tell those that don`t understand Arabic that the minority wish to impose their values on the majority, furthermore it is a warning shot fired across the bow of Israeli society to take notice that "Palestinian Arab Citizens of Israel" do not recognize Hebrew as the common language of the State,("while sarcastically calling on Hebrew speakers to learn Arabic."). To have Dalia Rabin "backtrack" only serves to embolden a minority that ultimately sees itself as becoming the majority one day.
Dalia Rabin should not backtrack, her initial response was valid and correct, especially since the speech was at the Rabin Center for crying out loud. |
