Many secular Israeli`s feel they are Israeli first and don`t feel Jewish or even know what this means. Religious Jews make up less than 30% of Israeli society, so your comment on taxes and finances is far to general to be taken seriously. You lump every Jew who does not wear a kippa into the same category. Same applies to soldiers. However you may have heard about the extremely low percetage of secular Israeli`s from Tel-Aviv in fighting units. Israeli`s, not from the secular bastion of Tel-Aviv, tend to be more traditional and Zionistic. Not so sure if I would praise the secular movement in Israel as the secular approach is centered toward the individual. |
