This is more than engaging in cultural aspects of Judaism. It is creating rituals to make the religious aspects more meaningful - just as our ancestors created prayer services to replace sacrifice. Except that the current generation of young Jews is not necessarily replacing older rituals - just supplementing them with those they can better relate to.
