You make one error. Many Canadians think that Indians pay no tax, but that is not so.
They pay no income tax ON MONEY THEY EARN FOR WORKING ON A RESERVE. If they work off the reserve then they pay tax on their income.
They pay no sales tax on PURCHASES THEY MAKE ON THE RESERVE. If they buy something off the reserve, they pay sales tax on it.
Obviously there are clever ways of evading those limitations in some cases, but the bottom line is that freedom from tax is only for Indians who live and work and stay on reserves.
And if you`ve ever been on a reserve, you`ll probably say that you wouldn`t live there if you were paid to do so. |
