I know that factual knowledge is not high on the list of many posters, but let me point out that:
Canada never made war against its natives (although about 15, I believe, Metis and Indians were killed or executed during the Riel rebellion);
Natives make up about 10% of Canadians;
Natives are the fastest-growing group in Canada;
Native land claims are recognized in Canadian law (this is not really the right way to put it but is all that a non-lawyer would understand) and
Federal and provincial governments are in negotiation to settle treaties with Native groups by giving them land, money, and special rights.
BTW, we were all shocked by the Toronto killing - although the girl`s friends seem to say that it had nothing to do with her attitude to Islam. |
