Jews may be relieved to know that disputes like this in the civil courts affect other religions too. When Presbyterian churches in Scotland have split, the dispute over who owns the property has often gone to civil courts. Leading to a famous case where Richard Haldane had to argue the reconcilability of predestination and free will to a group of bemused English lawyers in the House of Lords, in order to allow the majority of the Free Church to hang on to their churches.
