Hamas is taking the Lebanon war tactic one step further. They are betting on international intervention that will stick Israel with another UNSCR 1701 type of resolution. They win by just standing up against Israel and taking the hammering.
Israeli escalation plays into the hands of Hamas.
As Israel is forced to escalate more and more, Hamas merely has to maintain their current level of rocket attacks to show Israel can`t break them, just like what happened in Lebanon. When Israeli attacks become massively imbalanced compared to the relentless Quassam volleys, and cause more and more civilian deaths, the UN will have to step in just like Lebanon.
A quick cease-fire is the way out of Hamas` trap. |
