| Saeb erekat is a charlatan and a chameleon. When his master Arafat was around, hew wore a perpetual 3 day growth. Now that he`s thrown in his chips with the Ramallah lot, he`s cleanshaven like his boss. Erekat is like a meerkat: always looking around to ensure his survival with quick worried movements. He hankers for the mantle of statesmanship. But he is as much a statesman as Chou en Lai was a democrat. For meerkats survival is paramount. Same with Erekat. In the time he has been around, he has become chubbier and has brought the Middle east not one jot closer to peace. Saeb is just a career politician after all, not a leader. And so, if we take away his bestowed mantle of "chief negotiator", he remains just a nervous, burrow digging family man. just like the meerkat. |
