| The sanctions against Iran which have been championed by Bush turned out to be worse than useless. They are actually counter productive. Faced with decreasing business with the west, Iran has expanded her market with Asia, and particularly China. This means that the business lost be the west as a result of the sanctions will not be regained at some later date. Not only has Iran expanded business ties with China, but political ties are also closer. China, and perhaps Russia will be provide reliable support for Iran on the UN security council. China is an emerging giant on the world stage and pushing Iran into a close relationship with China may not be what Bush had intended. At any rate, the sanctions are a dismal failure, but Bush is calling for more. |
