The Haaretz talkback has become a focus for blatant antisemites and fanatics of all kinds to spread their venom. Contrary to previous claims by Bradley Burston (who has abandoned his moral stand) it is evident that the censorship of ad hominems and libellous statements is sporadic, ineffective and at times non-existent.
Observing the method of censorship it is clear that posts arriving between certain hours are discarded and that others are inserted regardless of content. It seems probable to me that postings are often unread or not understood by the `censor`.
Libellous or inaccurate statements are published along with reasonable comment and the misunderstandings generated are often harmful to Israel. I can understand the need to discuss and change the way we operate but I can`t accept that condemnation of Jews in general and the country as a principle could be accepted without comment.
Are you reading this? I doubt it. Will you print it? It`s a matter of chance. |
