| One of the founding principles of the Kadima party was that Israel engage in a unilateral west bank withdrawal, keeping a large central block of settlements in place. This was not altruism on Kadimas part. This was a response to the Arab plan, which is also Americas vision, that Israel withdraw to the 1967 borders. This plan was gaining significant support at one time. Kadimas plan was a "pre-emptive" action to keep a big chunk of the west bank and concede the rest. After Olmert became PM, there was much talk about beginning the withdrawal, but the Lebanon war inturrupted. Since then, Olmert found that Kadimas plan was not ambitious enough. Why settle for a central block when Israeli expansion was still continuing with faint objection from the world. Olmert has talked peace but his actions are all expansion. How Israel Harel can criticize him is beyond me. |
