Of course, they have also insisted that Abbas has to establish his authority over Gaza -- else he cannot be considered able to enforce any agreements he might reach.
Finally, Israel will not arm him adequately enough to simply conquer Gaza. So he is not to achieve authority through reconciliation, and he is not to be given what he needs to achieve it by force.
Stop me if I`m wrong -- but doesn`t it look like Israel doesn`t ever want anyone they have to admit is a valid negotiating partner?
