Germany was more or less forced to open the archives. As German public TV (HR) revealed, many institutions in the US were active to force the German authorities to change the untenable situation. Paul Shapiro from the Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington D.C. accused Germany of trying to embezzle important scientific documents and of protracting to open the archives for research for at least 8 years. He outlined, that he could freely do research in all of Europe with the exception of Germany. With its behaviour, Germany had assisted those who negate the Holocaust (remember that Germany is the closest accomplice of Ahmadinejad in the West). German TV also suggested, that German authorities wanted to protect the perpetrators. As usual, German authorities refused to comment.
