If Bush would really wanted to see progress, there would be progress. After all, Israel is completely dependent on US money (it gets billions and billions of dollars a year, and couldn`t survive without it).
But alas, all this talk about peace and "ending the occupation" is empty and meaningless. It`s a show.
In reality Israel can do as it pleases, because the US allows it to do as it pleases. So the occupation will continue, as will the building of new houses in settlements, as will the building of the Wall, as will the daily humiliation of Palestinians in the Westbank, imprisoned in their own towns and villages by roadblocks and checkpoints, which Israel will be allowed to keep.
In the meantime, there will be "talks", which will lead to nothing, because Israel has not the slightest intention of ending the occupation and its settlements policy. The Americans will keep supporting Israel, whatever it does, and nothing will change. |
