When I was a contributor to the US website The Motley Fool I did so as a registered member.
The site had my real name and address and real e-mail address. I chose a name "Clickfool" and every message I left on their boards was under that name. It was impossible for me to leave a message under the name of, say, Cipora.
If Haaretz is to abide by this law it will clearly have to put in place a similar system, for at the moment it doesn`t have a clue who is leaving messages, or where they live. We can all post under any name we like and can change it on a whim.
So, I foresee a future in which Haaretz Talkbackers will all have to be registered. There will be no fakers, censorship will be far stricter, with periods of suspension for contributors who leave racist, insulting, obscene or libellous messages.
Posters will then abuse this system, persistently complaining about their adversaries in the hope of securing suspensions.
