| Hi Eli- The only "misdeeds" of the ACLU, as you know, are serving the vital function of enforcing the US Constitution, It does not engage in or condone violence, nor does it make law. What it does is lobby for and submit vital issues to the Courts for constitutional scrutiny. If the courts finds against the ACLU, it loses and no harm is done. When it succeeds, it enforces the Constitution, which most of us think is a good thing. How can this be bad? ACLU critics are implicitly attacking the US Constitution. They want US law to reflect their own bigotries and impose their values and religion on the American people. I too would like the right-wing extremists who criticize the ACLU to justify their position. Most of them know very little about it, only that it frustrates their efforts to impose their will upon those who disagree with them. I don`t always agree with its positions, but I am proud to have worked for and supported this great American institution. |
