I believe I know the Israeli society better than you so believe me when I say most of us want peace that involves the foundations of a Palestinian state (even one besides Jordan). The civil war scenario is exaggerated though it will open a gap in our society, that will heal over time. Perhaps what is the "major disincentive" for Israel is the fear that the new state will support terrorism and bring missiles closer to Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Maybe 10% of us want to keep the status-que but the rest want peace with a Palestinian state, which is more than I can say about the Palestinians who elected a terrorist group that simply put states "death to Israel and one state from river to sea." I remember a survey not long ago showing most Palestinians do not want genuine peace with Israel. |
