Independents in the United States outnumber either republicans or democrats. I was in Iowa for the caucuses--it`s a stone`s throw away from Minneapolis--and I got no sense that republicans were trying to rig the caucuses by voting for Obama. Voting in Iowa is done in public on a very small precinct-neighborhood level, where the voters mostly know one another.
In any event, no one is elected president without garnering independents and crossovers. |
