| The UN Sec. Gen. was ordered under UNSCR 1701 to address the issue of the Chebaa Farms area. He has put cartographers on the ground and they have mapped the region. He has yet to officially announce the borders the cartographers have mapped. The minute these maps are officially released and published, Israel will immediately become in violation of UN resolutions that require Israel to withdraw behind what the UN determines to be the boundaries of Lebanon. Israel will have to immediately withdraw to stay in compliance of these UN resolutions. The UN Sec. Gen. currently is withholding the release of these maps until the time is right. Perhaps until after there is a solution to Lebanon`s internal political strife? But Israel risks forcing the UN Sec. General`s hand prematurely with incidents like this. This would be very bad for Israel, with Hezb. still fighting for political power in Lebanon. It would immediately strengthen Hezb. Cut out the border games!! Release him now. |
