| If you`re talking about the biblical version of history, then at least take it in full. G-d promises the land of Israel to Abrahams seed, then to Isaac(and not Ishmael) and then to Jacob(and not Esau). Jacob has another name - Israel. The modern day Jews - Ashkenazi, Sephardi and Mizrachi - are clearly descendents of Jacob, mainly through the tribe of Judah, hence the name Jews. |
