Aluf Benn, Haaretz Correspondent : ANALYSIS: Olmert gets by with a little help from Bush
Talkback
Title:No attack on Iran so Bush has no need for "peace in palestine"

Here is what Aluf Benn`s analysis would have been if Aluf were honest:
Despite what Bush says publically about Iran, his authourization for release of the NIE on Iran nukes was a clear signal that, short of exreme provocation by Iran, there will be no US attack on Iran in 2008. Once that decision was made, Bush no longer had a need to cater to Saudi and gulf emirates to make his Iran attack feasible. What this means is that unlike six months ago, Bush is no longer in a position to have to pressure Olmert and his cabinet to make concessions to Abbas in order to satisfy Saudi King Abdullah, and it is now possible for him to make a "fun trip" to Israel. If the Iran attack plan was still on the table, this trip would either not be possible and Bush would have summoned Olmert to the White House to give him the much more unpleasant message of "Give Abbas what he wants so that Saudis will do what is necessary (i.e. pump lots of oil) to allow us to blast Iran nuke sites".
