I feel somewhat differently about it.
While no doubt Lantos` replacement will be less of a stalwart Israel-supporter, Lantos isn`t really the problem.
It`s to be expected -- and I don`t even think it`s particularly wrong -- that someone with Lantos` background would be a knee-jerk Israel supporter. Indeed, there would be nothing wrong with a dozen or so in Congress sharing his attitude.
The problem is that virtually every Congressman -- regardless of his background or his true feelings -- is compelled to toe the same line. |
