Jews are often referred to as the "people of the book" and why do we suppose that is?
Jews traditionally encourage education and reading at a young age and its this reason that Jews are disproportionately successful in every field. Arabs on the other hand are traditionally to this day are largely illiterate often discouraging girls from attending school considering school not Islamic.
I do not find this to be a justification or reason for Arab Israelis to be reading on a lower level but reading stressed at a young age at home is what truly makes a difference. Israeli schools should make an effort to encourage Arab parents to read to their children and should be focused on to bring Arab children up to speed. There is no reason to keep Arabs in Israel uneducated! On the contrary for peace to be made with the Arab people there must be an education revelation that the average Arab person is exposed to different thoughts, cultures, and ideas that may allow them to be more tolerant. |
