| South African whites learned the "Afrikaans" language. This was a dead end language used only by the whites of South Africa and was a "defacto" means of segregating those in power from those who were powerless. In the same way, "Hebrew" is used in Israel and by a few other Jews in the world. It is also a language used to help segregate the haves from the have nots in Israel. The Arabs who live in Israel can easily get by with a smattering of Hebrew as long as they are proficient in Arabic, one of the worlds major languages. |
