Title: | Ethiopian absorption a failure--why add to the problem? |

Everyone agrees that Israel has not successfully absorbed the Ethiopian Jews who came here during the past twenty years. Many of them continue to live in slums and are not able to learn Hebrew or acquire useful job skills. The differences between the third world country from which they came and Israel are too great to bridge successfully.
Why should Israel try to absorb more Ethiopians--especially those who never identified themselves as Jews until it became economically beneficial to do so? |
