| What you are missing is that under the terms of Camp David and the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, even those 750 were not allowed. The Government of Israel and Knesset had to approve a modification of the terms of the treaty following an assessment by the Egyptians that this is what they would need to secure the border. This is why Livni has every right to comment, and why Israel can expect Egypt to make good on their promise with 750 troops. BTW, the border in question is about two miles long. I think that 250 troops per shift (about one every ten meters) seems to be perfectly adequate, and is likely a much higher number than what Israel had deployed along that border. |
