i was brought up orthodox which ment i knew very little about judiasm. the way it was presented is that it was a region concerned with food and whether shabbat started at 5:01 or 5:06 on a friday. rabbis preached sermons that were suitable for 6 year old cheder children. once i joined refrom i learnt how rich our jewish heritage was, and am once agian very involved in judiasm. the difference between orthodox and reform is fundementalism. the problem with people making the canons, jewish, christian or muslim the word of god is a great danger to all 3 religions. the worst example today is muslim fundementalism, but there is much in our own torah and christian canons to make the muslim fundementalists look like boy scouts. when you are properly educated in torah as a magnificent piece of literature that covers the entire human condition right into modern times you really start to understand the genius of the torah as a human document that can lead us to god.
