| It was commonplace to write and say anti-semitic things in the 1930s. Look at the novels of Graheme Green, Evelyn Waugh, George Orwell, Earnest Hemmingway, F Scott Fitzgerald. This didn`t mean they were diehard anti-semites. It was simply the fashion to disparage Jews - a bit like wearing plus fours. However, most writers did undergo something of an epiphany after WW2 on discovering the fate of Europe`s Jews. Since the chap in question here took part in anti-Nazi activity long before the outbreak of WW2, it`s pretty obvious he was far from being an anti-semite. |
