| In pre-war Poland there was a woman writer who led a campaign that said Poland would be best off if all its Jews were kicked out. After the Nazi takeover, she led a secret committee to rescue Polish Jews from the Nazis. Asked how she could reconcile her contradictory positions, she said it was one thing to encourage Jews to leave Poland, quite another to support murder! Polite anti-Semitism is one thing, Nazism is quite another. Anti-Semitism was part of American life i the 1930`s, but Nazism certainly never was. The Roman Church in America taught a certain contempt for Jews for rejecting Jesus; the Chutch never condoned mass murder. |
