| My point was that the second woman can have some legal status as an adoptive parent -- but can never be the legal mother. I have stepchildren, but I am not their legal father. I am not trying to make life hard, just to find a legal solution that does not defy biology or offend against Jewish values. I myself am Orthodox, but I accept that civil law may not always coincide with Halacha. |
