I think that Egypt is the cause of major distrust in Israel vis a vis these new peace negotiations. They essentially got back all of the Sinai and Israel got nothing more than a slightly better peaceful border than Israel has now with Syria.
Look at the facts;
1) Egypt at best, turns a blind eye to smuggling into Gaza. Hamas can thank Egypt for all of it`s arms.
2) The Egyptian population today is overwhelmingly anti-Semitic. You would think that they would go through some sort of campaign to promote the positive aspects that Judaism had in Egypt, and the peace treaty with Israel.
3) Israelis today are more likely to trade with the USA, several thousand miles away than they are to trade with Egypt. This in my opinion is a big failure in the peace treaty. Professional unions still boycott Israel without a peep from the Egyptian, or Israeli government for that matter.
If the Arabs want Israel to give up tangible land and expect Israel to get nothing, I would rather pass. |
