The hotels are not doing this out of choice. Finally the Government without the pressure of the Histadrut is not allowing import of cheap labor. When the hotels decide that job replacement of 100`s of percents per year are unacceptable and that their managers need to be trained to prevent it. When the workers awaken to the fact that they have a right to organize and not be subject to sweetheart agreements with the Histadrut. When there are real workers committees and long dead workers are taken off of the fictitious workers committees. When the workers and the hotel management see service work as an honorable career, not just a short term job that needs rapid advancement. When the supermarket chains open their cheaper stores in Eilat and not only their higher priced stores and local businesses stop cheating on the Vat, by charging full price and pocketing the difference, then worker salaries will go further. None of these things are unattainable, but all of them are needed for this country to go forward. |
