| During a stroll in the ancient part of The Hague, I walked by the store of a violin builder. The door stood open and an old lady sat behind the counter. I walked in, in order to inform about Daniel; a friend of mine whom I had not seen for many years. The woman had informed me Daniel had committed suicide some years ago. He was a son of a Jewish father and a Dutch mother. The fathers was a concentration camp survivor, who could not cope with life. At some point he had killed himself while Daniel as a child was at home. Daniel had brought his childhood in very bad, hell like, circumstances. How many Jews and half Jews of the second generation have similar stories? They carry the trauma’s of their parents. |
