While Jews, as much as any other human group, are industrious, I don`t think that they run the
french industries. This is old-fashioned anti-semitism. Abbas should know better. Perhaps not.
I love the Algerian spirit as exemplified by its rai music which is full of life. I respect the Algerian contribution to the War of Liberation for France and the Allies during WWII, despite the gross discrimination they encountered. They were fighting for French egalitarian values, so they told themselves.
Algeria is also a profoundly religious nation
which has tried to steer a middle course, and I hope that the two countries will build on that, even as France has a great deal of problems in integrating French-born descendants from North Africa and elsewhere. Room for lots of improvement there. |
