If Bush and Rice legitimately believe that an I/P peace agreement is important to their respective legacies, how will they regard the planned obstructionism?
If the Annapolis process was a sham and all Bush wanted was a photo-op, then there will be little or no US resistance to it. OTOH, if there is a real US desire for the negotiations to proceed without right-wing obstruction, then the only stick the US has is threaten the $3 billion welfare payment - although the chances of the payment being stopped are negligible, given the right scenario, it might happen. |
