By The Associated Press: Ex-Israeli U.S. professor confesses to killing wife
Talkback
Title:Andy #2, Alain #7 - How do you know?
Name:Profesora Isadora
City: Oxford State: UK
How could you possibly know whether or not I am more picky about Israelis than anyone else? I am not being picky, just making a point that (in this particular context, which is the subject at hand), "ex-Israeli USA professor" is an odd construction, irrespective of the actions of the perpetrator. (Why isn`t he called an "American," for one, if he has acquired US citizenship? To my knowledge, USA is not an adjective indicating nationality.) I know quite a few professors and scientists who, like myself, were born in Israel and/or educated in Israel, who presently live in the UK and in the US. When our actions are a source of pride and "nachas," they are identified as Israelis by Jewish and Israeli media. We are often criticized for being Israelis by non-Jews and our livelihood threatened by boycott. I simply observed that I have never before seen the term "ex-Israeli" (particularly paired with "USA")before. And Alain, I do happen to teach a course on "Ethics and the Media"!
