| a westernised democratic country in their midst. The fact that it is a Jewish state is irreleveant. The fact that it is occupying Palestinian territory is irrelevant (Arabs despise the Palestinians, not to mention that they are intimidated by them having been exposed to a democratic Israel for so long). The Arabs are frightened by the nature of the state, its institutions and its make-up as a western leaning democracy. Thus, Israel must always remain strong, and retain its nuclear monopoly if it is to survive. The question is for how long can Israel fight. I am afraid this is going to go on for a long time until the Arab state`s character changes. This is not likely to happen in our lifetime. Anything else you post about rights, history, injustice, international law etc. is irrelevant. The core issue is as stated above. Israel has a better chance of making peace with the Palestinians than with the surrounding Arab states. |
