I am technically a `WASP", a White Anglo Saxon Protestant. Except that I am 1/4 Irish Catholic. And god knows what else. I had ancestors who moved from New Amsterdam when the English arrived to make it New York. So what? On my paternal side there is an English link, so what? Abe Lincoln was a distant relative? So what? In America you are what you are, and that is fine with me. One nice thing about being a mongrel in the Number One Mongrel nation in the world is that you can be what you want to be. That includes attending the Greek Festival, the Italian Festival, the Who Gives a Damn Festival - and enjoying them all. |
