It used to be said that "on the internet, no one knows you are a dog." Just reading some of the comments here in "response" to the topic of Yiddish scientific literature shows how much the idea of Yiddish serves as a touchstone for attitudes, too many of them racist, toward Jews,
and some of those attitudes are even by some who may consider themselves Jews of some sort. It dismays me the degree to which racists continue to try to hound Jews who are just trying to live their lives with the same human rights that are taken for granted by everyone else.
Yiddish is a language that belongs to those who speak it and read it. Israel is a country where Jews are entitled to live their lives freely, and it seems like most of our "correspondents" would be likely to oppose Jews` living freely anywhere in the world, including "their" countries. And racists are still racists. One word for them is shkotsim.
Incidentally, isn`t anti-semitism supposed to be off limits in these comments? |
