| The neglect of Yiddish by the Jewish state is a Jewish tragedy. The humour of the language the warmth and love it conveys is sadly lacking in the harshness and monosyllabicnes of Hebrew. Perhaps if Yiddish had been adopted as Israel`s language, Israelis would be a kinder more sympathetic people. Perhaps, but I doubt it. After all it was Yiddish speakers who committed the war crimes against the Palestinians. |
