You would do well to pick up a book at the library or a book store on the science of surveys and statistics. You do not need to survey 150 Million people to get an accurate idea of how the majority of 300 Million people feel. You only NEED a few thousand before you have achieved the level of accuracy (what they call the "Margin of Error") that public opinion polling can achieve without actually asking everyone. If you have less than that number (I don`t know the exact number) then it simply increases the margin of error from the roughly +/- 3% that is about as accurate as you can get. Above the aforementioned number, you experience diminishing returns on your increase in accuracy and its a waste of resources to keep asking more people because your poll gets no more accurate. To summarize, the difference in cost between asking 2,000 people and 150 million is extraordinarily large, while the difference in accuracy is negligible
