"The final report of the Winograd Committee, which is investigating the conduct of Israel`s top echelon during the Second Lebanon War, is expected to find Prime Minister Ehud Olmert responsible for the death of 33 Israel Defense Forces soldiers in the last 60 hours of the conflict, according the British newspaper The Sunday Times."
This death toll includes all those IDF soldiers slain by Hezbollah in that ridiculous assault on a supposedly "strategic" hikll overlooking the Litani, a hill that Israel promptly evacuated. The final line of the Sunday Times should make Israelis shudder:
"Grossman was one of the last soldiers to be killed when a Russian-made Kornet antitank missile blew up his tank."
Gone are the days when Israeli equipment superiority guaranteed success on the ground. The IAF will experience some nasty shocks in the next bruising encounter with Hezbollah.
The IDF claim that they learn from each war and will do better next time. Their opponents learn too. |
